Where the journey began

My path started with something very practical — rehabilitative exercise to recover from a childhood injury. What began as healing the body slowly opened a much bigger door.

That path eventually led me to China, where I spent ten years studying Tai Chi with Master Wang Nin Yuan. During that time I was introduced to the principle of Chi and a deeper understanding of food as medicine.

Learning through stillness

On my way back to Australia, I spent time in Thailand practicing Vipassana meditation at Wat Suan Mokkh. The simplicity of stillness and observation became a turning point, shaping the way I understand mindfulness and presence.

Expanding the practice

Back in Australia, my curiosity continued through many styles of yoga. I apprenticed with Shandor Remete of The Shadow School and later deepened my formal studies with Peter Scott from the Iyengar Yoga School.

Alongside yoga, I explored training in fitness, counselling, massage, and even circus arts — each bringing a different perspective on movement, awareness, and human expression.

Teaching and community

Teaching began in fitness centres and festivals, eventually growing into large outdoor classes at ConFest’s Yoga and Healing Village.

For a short time I studied Business and Arts at Melbourne University, but the pull toward a more embodied life was stronger. I followed that direction to Byron Bay, where I joined the teaching faculty of Yoga Arts and INSPYA.

A different chapter

An eleven-year pause from teaching came as I stepped fully into co-parenting my son, Arlian Ecker, now working as an environmentalist and influencer.

During this time my learning continued in other ways — through Pranic Healing, Theta Healing, Aboriginal Landcare, and Permaculture — bringing a stronger relationship with land, ecology, and community.

Life and work today

Today I live in Byron Shire, supporting native habitat regeneration, food forest projects, and land care work.

My work now brings together meditation, movement, and breath through bespoke trainings, men’s groups, and DeTox Yoga retreats offered around the world.

Looking ahead

The journey continues with upcoming retreats in Thailand and Europe, created together with Vanessa Mazzocchi.
