Born in New Delhi and now based in Tartu, Tushar Prakash is a filmmaker by profession and a music enthusiast at heart. His musical journey began when his grandmother enrolled him in Tabla classes. While the instrument didn’t stick, it sparked a lasting love for rhythm and the art of sound. Growing up in Delhi’s vibrant cultural landscape, Tushar was immersed in Indian classical, folk, Sufi music, and nostalgic Bollywood tunes from the ’80s. His introduction to electronic music came later, sparked by a chance encounter with a book on minimalist composers like Terry Riley, Steve Reich, and Arvo Pärt in Delhi’s second-hand book market. Tushar’s DJ sets are a rich tapestry woven from the sounds of his heritage, layered with the seductive pull of Western electronic genres—disco, techno, and house—subtly reclaiming and reimagining them through a decolonial lens.
