Anu Taul is a musician, singer and songwriter from a family of artists, musicians and instrument makers from Mulgimaa. She now lives in Võru County, in the Haanja uplands, in the native Haanimaa. Anu’s work is inspired by nature, its rhythms and patterns, sounds and colours. She is also inspired by the traditional influences of our ancestors and the Finno-Ugric sense of being. Anu’s vocals are sensitive and touches the deepest soul-strings, taking the listener on a kind of journey into oneself. Her songs resonate with a genuine oneness with nature and all creation.
Anu Taul about herself: By opening up my voice and letting the song ring, it is possible to create bridges between worlds. My songs are optimistic, hopeful, both in melody and lyrics. When I create something, I tune into brightness and feel that music is first and foremost soul food for myself. The power of song and creation carries you, if you trust your inner feeling and give yourself to it unreservedly – then it also touches other human souls and brings support and joy. I have noticed that my songs have a kind of healing power. The feedback I get from listeners confirms that people have overcome difficult moments in their lives thanks to my songs, and that is what I enjoy most. There is an invisible power hidden in creativity that reminds us that we are all one.”
Anu Taul has released six author albums. The most recent album, ‘Metskass’ (Wild Cat), was released on CD and digital in late 2022 and on vinyl in spring 2023. All lyrics on this album were written by Erkki Peetsalu and the melodies were composed by Anu herself. In addition, Anu paints – her series of pastel paintings ‘Muusikamaal’ (Music Painting) in which she portrays Estonian musicians, is touring Estonia as an exhibition. As a creative entrepreneur, she has been involved in various creative projects as an illustrator, musical designer and actor, and she also gives voice and instrument lessons.
